Is there a cancellation policy? Prepare for all
eventualities and be sure to cover your bases should you
have to change dates or cancel for any reason.
Be clear on their payment policy. Obtain in writing all
details of costs and when the deposit is due. Diarise this
date and ensure you cover this cost to prevent losing the
venue halfway through your wedding preparations.
Look for any hidden costs in the contract? ie, corkage,
waiter service, after hours open bar...
Are there overtime charges? Cover the eventuality that
your party may carry on past the booked hours and
possibly incur extra fees.
If the reception is being held in unlicensed premises,
check the requirements for the day. Does the venue need
to apply for a temporary liquor license. This can apply
for outside weddings or public access weddings.
If the venue is licensed, and you have a particular choice
of champagne or wine you would like to ser ve, can you
bring your own and what is the corkage charge?
Some venues have separate rooms for the band and
dancing. Make sure you meet with the band to discuss
music choice, time they will be expected to play and the
costs involved. Does the band expect to be fed from the
